Verdict:
Quite a varied album we have here;
frontman and guitarist Dave Griffiths makes a
huge songwriting statement on this record; he's
got something to say and he can “Play It From
The Heart” which is made clear on the song of
that title. It features a guitar outro played with
more feeling than a chap with sixteen hands and
empathic super-powers. Some might simply
label GasFoodLodging as an indie crossbreed
of Lou Reed and Bob Dylan but I wouldn't; this
entire album is a work of Birmingham genius and
arguably a shrine to multiple artists from a music
scene devoid of any corporate disease. Lyrically,
“Moving Away” is like opening a sentient time
capsule that's able to dissect the future with a
middle finger from the past. When I was young I
mainly listened to the albums 'Axis: Bold As
Love' and 'Electric LadyLand' by Jimi Hendrix;
Dave Griffiths succeeds in capturing the magic
and passion of those albums with songs like
“Under The Texas Sun” and “Banging Drum” but
it always sounds like GasFoodLodging. There
are moments of pure Iggy Pop, harmonies like
Edwyn Collins, satire inspired by Bill Hicks but
the bottom line is that Andy Warhol could
probably paint to this. Highlights “Daniella
Delrey” and “All For Your Country”.

Verdict:
This is the poet or spoken word artist
of the future and it's now a darker world to speak
out about; if you are a wide awake critical
thinking citizen or subject convinced that you are
born with a barcode, that the government is
watching you, spraying chemtrails above you
and planting microchips in your influenza
vaccine jabs then APZ or Adam Probert is an
artist that you will strongly relate to. Highlights
on 'The Battle For Tomorrow' are “Population
Control” and “Justice” but to get a full flavour of
what APZ is all about then I strongly recommend
you watch the “What You Have To Hide” music
video on Vimeo for a proper introduction. Adam
Probert is armed to the teeth with subject matter
against a backdrop of dark ambient and e
xperimental sounds; as an album it lacks any
form of commercial dance rhythms but makes
up for it in weirdness, eeriness and inventive
movie-like textures. Adam Probert is a truth
seeking megaphone; this release I believe is a
welcoming warning shot to enlighten many.
Released on Sonic Entrails which is an
underground label releasing noise on limited run
cassette, digital and other formats.
