RYAN'S GIG GUIDE May 2017 - page 12

Verdict:
If you enjoy wearing leather gloves,
drink lucozade whilst sprinting the 100 metres
whilst whistling the Phantom Of The Opera or
are a pure dedicated fan of old school metal and
the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal
(NWOBHM), then NightBlade's re-released
album 'Closer To The Threshold' should be a
sheer delight. The band formed in 2010 making
them part of a New New Wave Of.... (you get the
idea). Highlights are “Your Soul, Right Of Way”
with it's early Iron Maiden sounding galloping
guitars, the Judas Priest esque “Over My Dead
Body” and there's the awesome title track
“Closer To The Threshold” strongly hinting
Diamond Head in places. The band who
originate from the West Midlands are embarking
on a European tour in 2018 and searching for a
new drummer to join them for live shows. They
have a classic 80s rock sound and have already
toured with many established NWOBHM bands.

Verdict:
Formed in Birmingham in 1991
Warlord are true champions of thrash death
metal. Before they complete their next album
we're examining their previous 2013 release 'We
Die As One'. First of all Warlord UK are genuine
monster masters in their own right of this genre;
many bands out there consider themselves
heavy but I challenge them to not get their heads
blown away by the incredible extreme force of
this bands music. Warlord UK match the sheer
intensity of renowned acts such as Carcass and
that's no easy mission, songs such as “Strength
Defeats Decay” and “Human Inner Core” are
prime examples as the riffs are so razor sharp
they could tear through skin, the drums are
ridiculously technical and the vocals are spot on
superbly performed whilst being clear to hear
and what you need; like the voice you can
imagine Jason Voorhees of the Friday The 13th
movies would have if he had a bad temper.
Seriously good album for the hardened metal
fan. “Masses Gather In Masses” is a major
highlight for its epic atmosphere and
musicianship giving us seven minutes of
controlled mayhem . Warlord UK have returned
to the gig circuit and we look forward to their next
release.
