Gaz sat down with RGG guest writer Emma to
talk about their debut studio album, musical
inspirations, as well as a not-so-secret
Halloween cover release:
Emma:
Knowing you guys personally, I know
that how you interact on stage is a true reflection
of your relationship with each other. What can
someone who’s never seen the band perform
live before expect from the performance?
Gaz:
We try to make our performances an
inclusive thing. I’ve always liked bands with a
stage presence like
Reel Big Fish
or
Ginger
and The Wildhearts
. The fucking about. The
interaction. The music. It’s like a never ending
hazing for Steve.
Emma:
What’s your musical background?
Gaz:
I’ve never had any kind of guitar lesson in
my life. I started playing in secondary school. I
used to steal acoustic guitars from the music
department ‘cause our music teacher used to
fuck off home early and we knew…
Emma:
Are we okay to put this in a magazine or
are you gonna get arrested?
Gaz:
Nah it’s fine, we didn’t sell them for drugs…
well, not until the second year. Anyway, my folks
were great and they bought me my first guitar
when I was twelve, it’s a shitty little Hohner
Rockwood called Baby. Every guitar’s got its
place, Baby’s place is in the corner.
Emma:
What inspired your love for punk? At
twelve, did you realise this was the sound you
wanted to produce?
Gaz:
The fact I couldn’t play anything else
inspired my love for punk. I knew three chords F,
G and C, I can form a band! I got into
Guns’n’Roses
at first and then
Nirvana, Green
Day
and then
Rancid
and then I realised that
this is something that’s attainable!
Hailing from Wolverhampton The Bitten boast a heavy fusion of classic punk and
rock’n’roll. Or as lead guitarist Gaz likes to put it “not quite GCSE level, sleazy
punk’n’roll ”. These quadruplet love children of Rancid and Johnny Cash are
signed to local independent label Bunny Boiler Records and have so far released
one full length album; “Is It Supposed to Sound Like That?” which is available for
purchase. The Bitten consists of lead singer and guitarist James Hudson, guitarist
Gaz Bannister, Stephen ‘The Dave’ Haden on bass, and drummer Dan Harper.
