The live hip hop scene in Birmingham may not be a familiar thing to most local gig goers as it tends
not to include “live instruments” such as guitars bass and drums however there are many forms of live
hip hop happening in the second city and The Midlands as a whole It might be in the form of rap in
spoken word and poetry or in hip hop artists working alongside live musicians live DJs or rapping to
their own home produced tunes that they have worked on for hours fine tuning to get their specific
sound right
If you take a look into the scene you will soon find that
there are many talented artists – the majority being young
and boasting raw talent fresh from high school – thriving
to get their message across on stage The live shows are full
of energy and have a small but strong and ever growing
following And it’s not all as bad as the main stream media
makes out It’s still live music and a live message being per
formed to a live audience Just because there is no guitar
solos or a live drum kit being played doesn’t mean that the
performers haven’t worked as hard to write their tunes or
pen their lyrics any less than their counterparts in the local
rock bands
Live music and live entertainment is important no matter
what form or genre and the live hip hop and urban scene
in Birmingham is definitely alive and kicking and growing
stronger Check out MRP & SOUND SHARE’S EVENT:
