Part of me thought "What if no one ever
wanted me in a role for an American film?" It
was the reality side of me kicking in I guess but
the dream side of me stepped in and I thought
"What if I did the filming then?" Now I knew
bugger all about being a filmmaker so I was in
real shaky territory I decided to go to
University and learn about filmmaking I also
needed a camera so I got a loan from the bank
With me so far?
Now rather than give you my life story let me
fast forward to the present At this very
moment I'm sat in a cinema at a film festival in
Birminghamwatching a film I directed and shot
in Los Angeles (which I also had an acting role
in) that features a soundtrack featuring music
from bands I've worked with and also a song by
my own band Now that's making a dream
happen So why have I told you all this? Well
although I've missed a few details out I’ve
outlined my dream (a dream that I didn't fully
understand at the time) and by attempting to
take it seriously other things emerged along the
way which I pursued and the original dream has
became a reality
I never thought I would ever be in a film I never
thought I would be filmed in America I never
thought I would have my music in a film I never
thought I would see that film in a film festival
I just wasn't thinking
This is just an example of what can be achieved
when you start dreaming the impossible and try
and make it reality It was two years ago that I
bought my first camera and first traveled to the
USA Since then I've made two films (one still in
post production) filmed music videos for
bands and songwriters recorded a studio album
for my band and been a part of an international
film festival It took hard work It wasn't easy
but I took myself seriously and tried my best It
wasn't handed on a plate and I had to take
massive risks So this month I'd like to
encourage you to revisit your dreams and
instead of seeing them as impossible goals
think about how you can make them happen
no matter how daft it might appear to others
Dream well; but when you wake up make a
new reality for yourself
