RYAN'S GIG GUIDE December 2016 - page 12

RGG December 2016 - p.12
Verdict:
You just won't BeLive (see what I did
there?) how thoroughly enjoyable this live
album, released by multiple award winning blues
artist Rebecca Downes and her band is to listen
to. If you've not yet bought the studio albums
'Back To The Start' or 'Believe' then this is a
grand introduction to one of the UK's biggest
stars on the blues circuit. Highlights are blinding
opener 'Never Gonna Learn', a grand rattling
version of 'Basement Of My Heart', crowd
favourite 'Believe' and album closer a fantastic
cover of 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.
There's 13 super tunes on here and it's a
stunning collection of good blues. What this live
album succeeds in doing is cementing Downes's
reputation as a top live performer; she's earned
her leopard spots anyway but Rebecca and the
extremely talented musicians in her live band
sound terrific on this album. If you've ever been
to a Rebecca Downes show then you have to
own this!

Verdict:
An incandescent and strong metal
album from Stafford based Obzidian who open
up their fourth full length official release with the
tremendous 'Sins Here Are Purified'; vocally
suggesting a nod to Messuggah and musically
echoing traits of early Carcass and Pissing
Razors. This album will appeal to those who
require something less commercial/melodic/
thrash sounding than say Soilwork and need
something a little harder. Highlights are 'Beaten
Into Submission' which, like nearly all Obzidian
tunes, has an awesome bridge section.
A first-rate title track 'Obliteration Process', the
crushing slow but confident cruising speed girth
of 'Like Maggots They Infest' and 'They Led The
Fall' simply because its fat, no explanation
needed. This is a very heavy album and not to
be confused with a soft fluffy teddy bear.
Excellent.
