Walsall based indie alternative rock band The
Assist led by singer Mike Stanton began in 2013
and received a lot of attention when they
released a charity song 'Walsall FC Go To
Wembley'. The proceeds for the song went to
Walsall FC Youth Development but they also
went to The Brain Tumour charity because there
was a much deeper meaning behind the
collaboration. Burntwood born Charlatan's
drummer Jon Brookes died of the illness in 2013
and raising money in his memory was
something that The Assist were very keen to do.
The song raised money; the football team didn't
quite have had the victory they wanted but the
cause for the tune was very touching.
This month we give a helping hand to The Assist
(its getting harder making puns) and shed some
light on this football loving four-piece force.
Residents of various towns and cities across the
UK have encountered a bizarre phenomenon
where they have discovered graffiti sprayed on
walls with the letters T.H.E. A.S.S.I.S.T. and
always appearing at times before or after a band
with the same letters in their name have
performed a show. We here at RGG magazine
are equally as baffled as to how this strange,
arguably act of God occurs, why it happens or
even how much a stencil costs to make but
instead of solving this mystery we will
investigate the music.
