Saturday 15th Feb | 1000 Trades, Birmingham

20 Year Old Car is an album by local singer/songwriter & guitarist Quinn Lam which will appeal to fans of traditional delta blues and modern folk-rock alike.

This is an album of authentic sounding country blues that steers well clear of the cheesiness you might find in modern country.

Quinn voice has a surprisingly deep quality which sits comfortably somewhere between Tanita Tikaram and Cheryl Crow ...without the Americal accent.

Lyrically, the album is gladly bereft of the kind of sentimental cliches that can riddle commercial country music. It opens with funky toe-tapping blues-rock numbers 20 Year Old Car & Truth be Told before the more chilled out Soul Who Travelled. Soldier of Fortune picks up the country pace again, followed by Philosophy which has some lovely delay-drenched guitar. Dirty Class shows a vocal versatility not explored in the previous tracks. Loneliness is Easy & Twist and Turn are gentler songs showing some real warmth. Closing track Layers is, for the main part, a solo acoustic guitar & vocal track which transforms with a rousing ending which finishes off this great album rather well indeed.

Fat Bloke With No Tattoos
