          Verdict:

This is a single by Black Country and

proud band Birthrite, who are inspired by

steampunk fashion. 'Born In The Black Country'

really says what's on the tin. You hear a

mans tale (vocalist Erazamus Voss's I'm

assuming) explaining how proud he is of being

born in this great region of the world and it really

is a truly inspiring place too. As a song it's not as

rocky or upbeat as many of Birthrite's other

material but this song is obviously about pride in

their birthplace and it's nice to see a band take

their heritage seriously. I don't think they'll be

taking over the world with this song but this is

one kick ass band that you sure need to check

out. Other releases by the band I highly

recommend are the 'Mechanical Spider' and 'If

It 'Ay Bost, Dow Fix It!' EP's. All their songs can

be heard on Bandcamp.com and Birthrite have

a spectacular music video definitely worth

          checking out entitled 'Goodbye Happiness'.

'Born In The Black Country' is sung with pride

and it's clear that Birthrite know their roots. When

you hear a man singing lyrics about his

granddad in a song then you know that there is

a lot of deep personal meaning entwined in the

tune - and for that I take my hat off.

          Verdict:

          Patched Up Parachutes is the

vehicle for West Midland singer songwriter aka

PTR Williams. In his own words these are

          "proper songs accompanied by unsophisticated

electric guitar, no wailing guitars". This 'Unpop'

five track demo is as raw sounding as you can

imagine and it's actually quite refreshing to hear

a demo played with such punk or unpop energy.

Opener 'Romantic Twit' is an adorable work of

art. Catchy, great harmonies and Peter Williams’

voice is remarkably hypnotic. Lyrically he knows

just how to reach your soul. 'Current Mood'

made me almost cry. I think if anyone has had a

difficult moment in their life and had trouble

being happy or keeping it together, then they'll

totally relate to this song. 'Falling' is one of the

most spine-chilling things I've heard in a while.

It begins like a powerful gospel and Peter

sounds like Bill Withers at his most soulful. I can't

          recommend this singer/songwriter enough and

he is a real musical genius who can write simple

but powerful songs that suck you in from the

          millisecond you begin listening. Magnificent.
