Verdict:
Malvern alternative rock artist
Mutl33 aka Lee Mutlee Smith releases the
album 'The Phat Earth Theory'. A very diverse
collection of dark industrial EDM (Electronic
Dance Music) songs. I'm sure I'd fail to describe
each tune musically using correct dance
terminology, so I will instead highlight one
amazing song to imprint what wonders you have
here in order to do the artist justice. 'Tastes Like
Tofuken' is an atmospheric and stylish
combination of moody, light lead, rock guitar
lines fused with, what I'd call, ‘trance and
ambient trap music’ (google it). This one song in
particular is up there with the same creepy
commercialism and deep suspense of the 28
Days Later theme song 'In A Heartbeat' by
Liverpool born John Murphy and is a work of
sheer genius. There are a multitude of EDM
styles that run throughout the album which make
Lee Mutlee Smith as a songwriter very
appealing. Recommended for fans of Depeche
Mode, Industrial music or EDM.

Verdict:
Debut single by Birmingham band
Lightside Released on March 31st is a real joy
to review. Their first EP received substantial
praise and this latest tune is even better. The
band create acoustically driven alternative rock
and 'Slow Train' is a real splendid example of
what they specialise in. Led by vocalist Carl
Grocutt-Clarke and accompanied by some very
experienced musicians from the regions’ music
scene. Mark Broome, Andy King and Mark
Guest have all enjoyed riveting music careers
beforehand in many Midland based music
projects, and by teaming up with Carl, produce
this wonderful super group - so to speak. The
song is an incredibly powerful and uplifting pop
rock tune which comes across an as
amalgamation of REM, Soundgarden and
Nirvana unplugged - but very British. This is
destined for excessive radio play. It's a fat song.
A lot of UK bands and musicians could learn a
few things from Lightside as this really is
superbly written. Keep an eye on their main
website for live dates.
