Verdict:
The followup release to the
first-class 'The Day My Career Died'
album by Kidderminster singer songwriter
The Humdrum Express is the 4 track EP
'Lookalike Bond'. The title track offers the
trademark Humdrum trail of satirical
observations about celebrity culture whilst
paying corking homage to the James
Bond franchise. 'If Only I'd Watched Blue
Peter' humourously homes in on modern
day consumerism and materialism with
excellent lyrics such as “Forty-something
blokes with wide eyes perusing toy shop shelves
for the latest Star Wars figures to buy for
themselves”. 'Fading Stars On Social Media'
speaks for itself and is definitely a highlight along
with the EP finale; an outstanding cover of
'Painting By Numbers' by cult band Television
Personalities which lovingly pays tribute to the
work of Daniel Treacy. Overall lyrically there's
less poking fun of any individual plum faced
elitists but more emphasis on the troubling
behaviour of modern society. The Lookalike
Bond EP is a fact-finding magnifying glass
shaped like a baseball bat filled with infectiously
catchy hooks and musically offers some of his
best work to date.

Verdict:
Since releasing 'Hello F*ck
You Goodbye' and 'Bloodlust', Midlands
band This Elegant Chaos have mainly
concentrated on engaging with their fast
growing fan base with key live shows and
'No Way Home' sparks their first release
since arguably a huge shift upwards in
popularity. First of all 'No Way Home' is a
welcome window to the American mid
nineties as it mirrors the big production
sounds similar to that of bands like Korn,
Coal Chamber and Deftones. Vocalist
Stephanie Taylor gives an incredible no
nonsense performance on this tune and
proves exactly why she is considered one
of the areas’ foremost singers when it
comes to fronting a heavy band. She has
the showmanship of a female Adam Ant.
There's normally an epic gothic eeriness
to This Elegant Chaos songs and this
single follows suit; the sheer massive
energetic grinding sound is radio friendly
and I predict it will be favoured by all the
good rock stations. Commercial and
badass.
