Verdict:
Quite deceiving to begin with but I I
love what this band are doing as it's quite
refreshing. It's harder than hard rock at times but
balanced with some superb inspiring melodies
and well executed ideas by vocalist Matt which
make the overall sound appear quite commercial
sounding. However, when I heard the first
metal-core sounding growled vocals in the first
few seconds of EP opening tune 'Awakening' I
sighed, but then it cleverly mutates into real
singing (hope I haven't trodden on anyone's
metal-core toes saying that). Final track 'C4' has
catchy lyrics like “Rules are meant to be broken”
and thanks to some of the rules they are
breaking themselves on this record, they are in
no way predictable at all. Very mid 90's
American hard rock in places but they have
really made this their own sound. It's nice to hear
lead guitar solos that are short and to the point
without boring your tits off. There's a little
smidgen of Alter bridge and Black Stone Cherry
too here and there. Keep a good eye on this
band as I think they are doing something quite
original here.

Verdict:
Big guitar sounds are always ones to
grab my attention, and this EP by Leicester
based band Final Coil delivers. Despite the huge
riff in 'Daylight Fades' and it being an excellent
opener; it was the song 'Goodbye To All That'
which really caught my ear and impressed me.
Musically the song reminds me of some of the
more memorable experimental moments from
the 'Badmotorfinger' album by Soundgarden but
this is no copycat. All the members of this song
show how versatile and creative they are and
vocalist Phil Stiles really comes across as an
energetic frontman. It's such a good tune, hats
off to all. 'Closed To The Light' really is a dark
and quite happily depressing song which I totally
loved. It sounds like it should have been an extra
track on the 'Dirt' album by Alice In Chains. You
can hear the influences but these are brilliant
original songs and this band needs to be heard
by you. Very very good.
