Verdict:
Self titled 5 track EP from a brand
new original Stourbridge based alternative rock
band called Into The Hurricane which was
created thanks to various members rising from
the ashes of their previous bands such as Lazy
J and My Great Affliction. First impressions?
Wasn't sure at first what I thought but they've
grown on me a lot and I like this super group.
'Wicked Tongue' initially grabbed me most to
begin with; some real outstanding technical
playing and a feel good chorus. Quite a
refreshing band really; not as predictable as the
majority of acts waving the alternative flag.
There's that air of high quality about them similar
to that which you get with bands such as
Audioslave which itself was a mixture of
members from different bands; it worked for
them and I think it really works well here too.
Highlights are 'Break' with its moody and epical
(yes, that's a word) dynamics; a wonderful tune.
Being honest, opener 'Generator' is a t
remendous opus of a number even though I
think the verses lack the uplifting sensation that
the rest of the tune has; maybe the clue is in the
later lyrics “It's a come down”? Some superb
time changes and a pure stomping guitar riff
makes it really stand out as a tune. Overall? Into
The Hurricane is a strong act and I know a lot of
people will dig them. The more you listen the
more they grow on you like an infection.
Fantabulous.

Verdict:
Debut album 'The Dark' from top
Wolverhampton and Shropshire band Electus.
Eleven tracks of quality hard rock metal, which
of course you'd expect from a band that's
dedicated to that genre of music. I always notice
the songs which best sell a band when I analyse
an album and for me it's just so obviously gotta
be 'Rider' with its astonishingly catchy cut off
guitar riffs, sheer addictive groove and seductive
hypnotic vocals. You know you have a winning
song when you're too busy doing air guitar and
letting yourself go upon listening to even notice
important things like lyrics or delicate subject
matter. Luckily for us it's got great lyrics and a
fat guitar riff. Other highlights on here are the
melancholy punk 'Sunflower' rock fuelled
anthems 'Tomorrow' and 'Fake Love' plus there's
'18', which I call the guitar shredders delight.
Electus songs all feature outstanding
performances by vocalist and guitarist Russell
Peake and this album unquestionably
authenticates exactly how much of a great
professional showman he is. Recommended for
fans of Black Stone Cherry, Alice In Chains and
Opeth.
