DEAD SEA
SKULLS
Live @ Actress & The Bishop - 19th September.
The Dead Sea Skulls and in particular lead singer
Ash Sheehan are clearly not made for the daily
grind of the rat race They sing big they play big
songs and they certainly dream big Surely it
won’t be long before the big offers and the big
crowds come rolling in along with a Rolex or two
All three of the band have been involved in
various musical projects over the years but it’s
only been in the past two years that these friends
(and in the case of Nick and Jimi – brothers) have
come together as a band Jimi was playing with
the Quireboys and Nick amongst other projects
was laying down session tracks with Swedish
House Mafia Ash it would seem has been every
where Dj’ing all over Europe whilst also touring
as a drummer for the Twang after their previous
drummer allegedly did a runner with their gear!
Last Saturday I raced across Birmingham Google
maps in hand late as always arriving a sweaty
mess at the Actress & Bishop to witness my third
DSS gig in as many months I cannot recall ever
being keen enough to see a band this much!
Labelled as a “homecoming gig” (I can’t imagine
there are many top music venues in Bloxwich)
a reasonable sized crowd squeezed into the
upstairs of the bar as the band set up
The concert once again was a rip snorting
sweaty expletive fuelled explosion It’s obvious
that the songs Sheehan sings are about the
bands life and dreams but lyrically they are
songs everyone can relate to Who doesn’t
dream of more money or telling your boss to
fuck off? I’m sure many dream about having
that chunky Rolex on their wrist and I’m also
pretty sure some of the readers will have
enjoyed the girls of the night plying their trade
in the dark corners of Walsall and its
surrounding boroughs! The music itself
(according to the press release) is described as
“scuzzy rock” a powerful three piece set up
with no frills just in your face music for people
