Verdict:
Dudley based band [PRIMER]
release this ten track album which is an
amazing mixture of Celtic inspired rock.
Highlights for me on this are 'Wannabe
Queenie' with its dramatic gripping lyrics,
the rock steady 'Hush' with its great
calling violin breakdown, there's 'Rango'
which is beautifully written and crammed
with dark gothic overtones, the brash and
all out beat of 'Poppy Stomp' which has a
real solid hook; 'RK91 has such originality
its scary even though it does have a hint
of Queens Of The Stone Age about it. I
love all the tunes, I adore the unique
style, it's fantastic songwriting and this is
where I have to be completely honest
here because I didn't like the mix at all
however I'm still making this album of the
month. Every song on here could sound
so much more full of life if mixed and
mastered differently; that irritated me
throughout because the songwriting is at
such a high standard. This is an
outstanding band with an original sound
and I encourage you to adopt [PRIMER]
now.

Verdict:
This nine track debut album
by THE SWAMP BORN ASSASSINS
from Scotland begins with the best intro
an album could ever have and then 'Out
In The Rain' blasts you with vicious blues
meat hooks and dirty sounding rock
guitars. Basically you have wonderfully
addictive grinding rock sounds fused with
blisteringly soulful harmonica and fronted
by a singer that could yell anything, and I
mean anything, to you and it would
always sound great; and you'd thank him
afterwards. Highlights are 'Never Ever
Never' which has such a radio friendly
chorus it bleeds commercialism. Overall
TSBA have an out of control sound which
they are in total control of. Honestly,
every tune makes you think that an awol
stampeding herd of animals are running
around the recording studio and when
you get to the end of the song you think
“Did that just bloody happen?”. A brilliant
album. For fans of Lester Butler, Howling
Wolf, MC5 and Motörhead.
