Verdict:
Demo title track 'Punk Pussay Party'
from Stourbridge based Sleepy Dan has the
potent hook chorus “When we all sing together”
which professionally echoes and mirrors the
vocal work and songwriting of Kurt Cobain's
early work such as 'About AGirl' from the Bleach
album. It's hard being terrific at making songs
and not having a drummer and that's the exact
predicament Dan of Sleepy Dan currently faces.
We've included his contact details here and
hope that he finds the right musician. The demo
we received has 10 superbly written songs
including the grunge happy 'New World', opener
'Revolution', the energetic yet purposely
lethargic nature of 'Mashed' and finally 'Way
Hey' with its satisfying feelgood chorus.
Definitely for fans of Dinosaur Jr, Kerbdog,
Nirvana and Mudhoney.

SLEEPY DAN
Verdict:
Birmingham Singer songwriter and
guitarist Julie Gunn sent us 'The Patchwork
Green'; a huge fourteen track album, three years
in the making, recorded at Arkham Studios and
produced by the mighty Alex Cooper. Julie's
songs were originally demos dating back over
fifteen years ago; after her father passed away
she was encouraged to finally record her own
album and this is it. Julie Gunn has no time for
nonsense as a guitarist and squeezes every
necessary note out of the neck with loving care;
imagine a female David Gilmour on guitar with
a prettier vocal range. Highlights are the radio
suited love song 'Your Girl', the beautiful dark
and eerie instrumental wonder of 'Jeanne d'Arc',
the atmospheric super rock anthem 'Temple Of
The Gods', the rock riff heavy 'Where Can I
play?' and of course there's the touching and
tender melancholy hook of 'So Far Away' with a
solo so powerful that a hardened Pink Floyd fan
would be cruel not to salute it. The album is
dedicated to the memory of her father Jerry
Gunn; I can only imagine how proud he must be.
This is a remarkable music collection and it
needs to be heard by more people. There's more
to come from Julie Gunn.
