RYAN'S GIG GUIDE SEPTEMBER 2015 - page 22

RGG September 2015 - p.22
Back in June I went to see The Bohicas at
Birmingham’s Rainbow Bar and ventured into the
facilities to have a wazz The row reverberating
through the walls from the stage room next door
was so loud and imposing I swear it changed the
course of my piss stream I hastily sent the good
lady to the bar whilst I went to investigate the
source of this wall of noise The creators of said
“row” were The Dead Sea Skulls In the tiny back
room of the Rainbow on an even smaller stage I
was instantly drawn to a whirlwind of activity in
the form of Ashley Sheehan Known to many I’m
sure as Grand Master Ash this ball of ink sweat
and spittle committed GBH on an innocent drum
kit whilst providing lead vocals Brothers Nick and
Jimmy Crutchley joined in with guitar bass and
backing vocals Unfortunately my time with the
Dead Sea Skulls was cut short by the
inconvenience of a headline set from the
Bohicas but I was left with one very clear
thought These boys were loaded to the back
wheels with talent If there is any justice in the
world these guys will make it big! (The irony of
Little Mix being on the radio as I write this
whilst the DSS play to
in the bowels of the
Rainbow is not lost )
NB I must also say that the Bohicas were also
very very good Unfortunately my review of
the gig was deemed unprintable after my tirade
against the Rainbow for closing the bar early!
A few weeks down the line my quest to see the
DSS in all their glory took me to Café Rene a
DEAD SEA
SKULLS
Playing live @ Actress & The Bishop - 19th September.
In 20 years of going to gigs and festivals it’s very rare that I’ve been stopped in my
tracks by a performance. It’s been even rarer that I’ve been bothered to go and see
a supporting act. This has lead to me missing numerous performances by bands
that have gone on to make it big, but it has also allowed me to consume vast
quantities of alcohol without distraction - the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away eh?
