Verdict:
Hands down, EP of the month. Birmingham
outfit TOROUS release a blinding five track EP with a
smart mix of styles; opener “Occams Razor” just baffled me on the first listen as I
wasn't really sure what was going on because so much was going on; overall this
band has a mountain of influences which I am guessing include GODSMACK,
METALLICA, SOUNDGARDEN and a few others but there's a huge Celtic touch
with the vocals and the songwriting which really makes this unique and it works so
well! “Hide In Sides” is one of the oddest but compelling rock tunes I've heard in a
while; you never know which direction the song will lunge into and it keeps you
captivated. “Roll The Tide” is just so deadly good, I was blowing my sound
system apart to it. This is seriously one of the reasons I like reviewing CD's
because every now and then you'll hear a band who break the rules and go
against the normal codes. They are heavy as hell when they want to be but
this Celtic edge they have just makes you bow down and worship their creativity.
Terrific.

Verdict:
Two tracks from Plymouth based band ALLEY-CAT
KINGS. No, they aren't from the Midlands as far as I'm aware. Rockabilly, psychobilly rock 'n'
roll with a 21st century kick and out of the two tracks they sent (I'm being honest here)
“Midnight Train” was the only one that really did anything for me; it really showed off their
talent, the other didn't seem on par sorry. This is a band who I hope we see play shows in the
Midlands as they are doing a fun style of music with a lot of love and passion attached to it.
I've checked out their other work and you can tell that this is a band that works better as a live act;
any promoters in the Midlands reading this please book them as I think they'd go down very well
in your venue, especially in places like 'The Maverick' in Brierley Hill for example.
