Verdict:
This is the debut single by a young
Stourbridge band called The Novus consisting
of Connor Hill (Vocalist), Tom Rhodes (Guitarist),
Tyla Challenger (Bassist) and Alex Turner
(Drummer). In the short time they've been
together they've been extremely active on the
Midlands live gig circuit and it's nice to hear
something fresh coming out of the music scene.
The tune has a very hypnotic funk feel and a
very strong catchy and likable indie chorus; not
what I was expecting at all. Often hard to say
what a band is like from just hearing one song
but this is actually quite good. Production values
could improve but I think for a first recording
that's expected. I try and support new music and
I'm going to give them a little push; eagle eyed
readers will notice that this is also the only single
reviewed this month which technically means I
can legitimately make this Single Of The month.
Hopefully we'll hear more from them again soon.
The band state that Circa Waves and Royal
Blood are influences and you can catch them in
action playing live at Himley Park & Hall on
Saturday July 1st. Their single 'Dive' is available
to hear on Spotify, iTunes and Google Play.

Verdict:
I wasn't expecting this at all. This is
the Cause And Effect EP by six piece pop rock
band Sianar from Glasgow and I loved this. I'm
not known for being a huge fan of pop music;
especially commercial mainstream acts and yet
when I heard this EP the first thing I thought was
“this is perfect for the charts” and when I say that
I mean no disrespect either because I remember
years ago when charts actually meant
something and Sianar have nailed what I class
as the big commercial rock sound. Tunes like
'Crash And Burn', and 'The Fire' are all radio
friendly and could easily stand fairly tall next to
the likes of The All American Rejects, Wheatus,
Fountains Of Wayne or The Killers. They don't
sound Scottish even though I can just about
detect a slight accent but they do sound world
class. I really hope this band does well.
Highlights are 'Out Of Darkness' and 'Lost
Without You'. Excellent work.
