Verdict:
Cracking brand new five track EP
from Wolverhampton based Black Market Beat
who offer an uptempo lashing of quirky pop punk
and pogo ska with 'Long Time Dead'.
Recommended for fans of Reel Big Fish,
Spunge and The Stiff Joints; this release
features a mighty song called 'Nearly Thirty'
which is basically like hearing somebody's
midlife crisis captured on a ska punk record; I
quite enjoyed it. The song I suppose captures
the regrets a person has looking back at key
moments in their life before hitting the big thirty
and has some well crafted lyrics including “I was
twenty years old, had the world at my feet but
now I'm nearly thirty”. Spoiler alert! Thirty will be
the worst year in your life and Thirty One will be
the best because when you hit thirty you'll spend
twelve months flat out doing everything you can
only to realise you've done more in that year
than you did in your entire twenties. Anyway; this
is a brilliant EP. Highlights are the speedy 'OFI
Friday' and 'The No-One' especially if you like
ska punk with plenty of trumpets.

Verdict:
This debut promo 'At First A Drop,
Then A Flood' from Birmingham singer
songwriter Alex Ohm contains four examples of
his truly soothing and remarkable voice.
'Through The Storm' is an orchestral delight of
which will “lift the clouds from your heart” with its
wonderful textures and huge production. 'Every
Ocean' with it's high paced rhythm is an
atmospheric symphony of soulful groove and
wouldn't sound out of place on a major film
soundtrack to a spy thriller; this is no accident
and a great deal of thought has been put into
these song arrangements. Judging by the sheer
overall superb quality of this promo which
appears to have been touched by the
experienced mastering ears of Pete Maher; I
think it's safe to expect a deep and meaningful
commercial studio album from Alex in the near
future. His website has a few live videos worth
checking out too and if you are new to Alex Ohm
then I think you'll agree with me that this is an
incredible debut.
