RYAN'S GIG GUIDE JUNE 2015 - page 7

RGG Jun 2015 - p.7
It was a little bit like watching the entire cast
of Baddie bounty hunters from all the Star
Wars films sat around a table preaching to the
Alliance "We're sick of the Empire making
Deathstars so we've built our own one now it's
co funded by us and we want you to pay us all
for it with a monthly subscription Daft Punk
are here too and they back this as well but
they might be just actors wearing
Stormtrooper helmets”
Jay Z argued that this was all about the art
which is quite interesting really as he's
previously openly admitted that he dumbs
down his own lyrics so that more people
purchase his music No compromising his art
there then eh?
This battle against the evil tyrannical
mainstream record companies (ones that
previously paid them all millions of dollars and
created their stardom) sounded like a bad sales
pitch and more like the contents of a bull's back
passage exploding into your face It hasn't
totally established all the perks for non
superstars or whether they intend to allow all
music on this streaming service Meaning there
could be a conflict of interest
As Tidal is fronted by large mainstream pop
artists supposedly offering exclusive pay to
hear/see only content of their own material
then it stands to reason that they'd dominate
it just like they already dominate the rest of the
music industry but do they really dominate it
as much anymore?
They all seem awfully terrified about losing
money despite earning lots of it currently
through other established channels Madonna's
net worth alone is something like
million
dollars and she and her erotic walking stick are
poking every orifice possible in the hope that
Tidal is a success Sadly for the poor
multi millionaire music club this so called
artistic revolution is becoming a bit of joke
amongst the lesser un gods
There are many independent musicians
songwriters and bands who do make money
from sites such as Deezer Amazon Spotify
Bandcamp and iTunes who aren't backed by a
major label and are in total charge of their own
careers The main problem for an indie artist
hasn't really been about their fair share of
royalties being paid out; they're more
concerned with geting their music noticed by
the general public who currently tolerate the
continuous bombardment of media coverage
about the dominating mainstream artists that
have a monopoly such as Jay Z and ColdPlay
Even this article despite being somewhat
negative towards Tidal acts as further publicity
for all the said elitist artists involved in co
funding it I'd possibly have more respect for
these pop stars if they had the balls to remove
their entire back catalogues from iTunes
Amazon Spotify YouTube etc overnight and
just piss off to Tidal for good If that became
the only place on Earth to listen to all those
artists then I and millions of others would
never have to worry about hearing their god
awful music ever again
