Ryan's Gig Guide - March 2020

Dinky are a four piece alternative indie band from theWest Midlands. With the release of the band’s debut EP ‘As I Falter’, Dinky showcased a compelling combination of infectious riffs and hook-filled melodies that helped to attract airplay from BBC Introducing, Kerrang and Free Radio. Succeeding the EP, the band went on to release digital single ‘Give MeYour Love’ and spent many years on the live circuit playing shows throughout the Midlands, London and Ireland. Dinky returned to the studio with acclaimed producer Andy Taylor (Editors/The Twang/ Jesus and Mary Chain) to work on their first full length album ‘Falling Satellites’. The album presented a new adventure in sound for the band through its insightful storytelling and melodic mix of musical genres. “With its catchy melodies and irresistibly good pop hooks, Falling Satellites is a great reward to a band that really puts in the effort to crafting great songs” - The Even Ground Shortly after the recording sessions for their debut album came to a close, Dinky began work on their second studio album 'Open Letters' with Andy Taylor back on production duties. With a new found confidence in their ability to create songs that playfully balance tender experiences against more visceral expositions, the end result is a more accomplished and sonically pleasing body of work. Along with showcasing their continued growth as a unit, Open Letters teases a blueprint of what's to come. Gavin from the band told RGG “ the band has been going for over 12 years now and I honestly just love playing music with them. Over the years we have all become really good friends and that has played a huge part in the chemistry between us”. mouse-pointer www.dinkymusic.co.uk Bethany Dyson Cross-genre Singer/Songwriter Bethany Dyson is already creating a buzz with her straight-talking lyrics and honest, raw approach to songwriting. All we know is that ‘Chris’ told us: “It’s the first stuff I’ve done since being in the Alex Ohm band and co- forming The Lines in 2003 “. ‘Gently Outta Tune’ is a dreamy song that’s very comforting to listen to, while the raspy vocals on ‘Flowers’ in particular is very reminiscent of my hero Mark Oliver Everett (Eels). TItle track ‘Barrel of a gun’ is a tub-thumping triumph that is warm, catchy & highly chantable.
