There’s some amazing music being created everywhere by local part- time artists you’ve never heard of but who will never become famous. Bands labelled ‘local’ or ‘unsigned’ will suffer from a perception that they’re just not very good, which is nonsense. Yes, some will be better than others and young/ new artists need time to develop & grow but some of them are already playing outstanding music and writing quality songs without much experience at all. Some of the most popular songs in history were written when the artist was an unknown and it’s vital that new songs get heard so they have the chance to become loved and shared into the wider world. Some people would never dream of going to see a band they haven’t already heard of or know they’re going to like. May be the big names, the local legends who, having made their names during more prosperous times, can get behind local artists, helping them reach a wider audience. - Go to gigs - lots of them are free! - Listen to local bands - you’ll be surprised what’s in your back yard. - Tell everyone you know about the local bands you find - gain kudos for knowing about them before your mates!
