Saturday 30th Nov Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham  SoulRock Central presents... The Pagans S.O.H The Great Malarkey MeMe Detroit Hüds It was a cold, dark & wet October evening in Digbeth. Squeezing through clumps of people gathered around outdoor food stalls, it felt somewhat like I was on the set of the next Bladerunner movie. Pre- gig, MeMe Detroit had already donned her trademark red band across the eyes and the image of Daryl Hannah’s similarly-banded face appeared in my mind, further perpetuating the Bladerunner theme ...I’ll stop now. I spoke to actress & musician Maria Rodriquez from about her up- coming Midlands mega-gig at The Sunflower Lounge. With a new line-up, MeMe detroit are ready to go again, releasing their latest single ‘Can’t get you out of my mind’ on 29th November. It seems that Maria is resigned to the fact of ever changing faces in the band - it’s nothing new for her. Maria has been in countless bands and recalls being encouraged to perform as a child by her grandmother who, would ‘dress her up like a doll’ and is also partly responsible for the band name as ‘MeMe’ was her name for Maria. Self described as Uplift angst, British/ Colombian Latina, MeMe Detroit was raised on the outskirts of Stratford-Upon- Avon UK and developed an ironic strong aversion to Shakespeare from a young age.
