BURNING THE PADRE SINGLE: Oxygen Thief West Midlands 5-piece deathcore band Burning The Padre release a six minute low tuned stop-start riff riddled teaser of extreme metal musicianship; Oxy- gen Thief is the first single from their upcoming de- but EP of the same name which is planned to come out in the Spring. The tune is everything you’d expect from a strong new deathcore band however when you first listen to the dark atmospheric and juicy 90 second intro you can tell there’s far more to this bunch than hammering a few chords together; It’s a grand introduction and if their other material is as creative and interesting as this then I think this will be a good EP for your collection. I like my guitars to be heavy and this delivers on every level. Core bands have got to be vocally attention grabbing and that’s what you have here; the riffs are crunchy and butt clenching they could make you actually shit the bed, but my favourite thing from this band is the tightness of the drummer because he’s clever, not in a show off way but he pulls off some smooth incredible fills and they’re ultra sly; just because you can doesn’t mean you need to bash out miracles every second and he clearly understands dynamics and has a great ability to judge what a song needs to sound heavy. Overall this is heavy-duty neck breaking at its best.  www. facebook.com/BtPBandUK ELIZABETH FIELDS SINGLE: Don’t Wanna Know It The brand new single from topWolverhampton art- ist Elizabeth Fields is slicker than the greasy strangler, has more hooks than Peter Pan’s nemesis and if it was a coat of paint then you’d enjoy watching it dry. Okay, first of all this is genuine skilled natural song writing; very slick and groovy as a whole, but more importantly, sounds stunningly damn cool and not forced. You know when you hear a tune and you im- mediately start nodding straight away because it has an attraction? Well that’s what ‘Don’t Wanna Know It’ does. Recommended for lovers of good blues mu- sic, world, jazz and folk as this is a well-crafted fusion of all those elements plus more; Elizabeth works and writes with some talented musicians and this is a fab- ulous example; I’d also say pay close attention to the backing singer Dulcie Phoenix on this song but that’s almost kind of insulting to say because she’s much more than backing; before the tune reaches its cli- max she dives from the rear straight to the frontline and owns it.Yes, Elizabeth commands this composi- tion, that’s obvious, but then when Dulcie Phoenix soulfully and stylishly comes flying out punching with her incredible voice you will be shocked at how an- yone can be that amazing. Both singers are a sheer joy to hear together and it’s a very commercial track.  www. facebook.com/elizabethfieldscollective Greetings puny earthlings. I am delighted to announce that I have con- structed a brand new eco-friendly high-tech torture device, a powerful death machine which I intend to fully test out on any future bands and songwriters who foolishly post a terrible sounding CD to me. Sadly, there was no obligation to tar and feather any musicians this month as we received four high quality releases from artists who have all demon- strated much wisdom by allowing me, the greatest CD reviewer of the entire universe, the momentous task of judging their musical prowess.
