Ryan's Gig Guide - March 2019

perfect sense that the 1959SLP is the model that the SV20H faithfully recreates. It may have been reincarnated in a smaller body at a lower wattage, but it will still verbally abuse you with the same voice. It goes to show it isn’t the size that mat- ters, it’s what you do with it, and Marshall have made every inch count. “But can you jump it?” you ask. Oh yesss you can!!!!! For those of you who might not know, there is a secret to unlocking one of the ancient tones of the Plexi and that is to jump the two channels to- gether. It is no one trick pony. There is a smorgasbord of tonal possibilities you can play with and only one rule. Do not play this amp with the volume down. There is a spe- cial place in hell for anyone who chooses not to crank this amp, and an even better place in hell for those who do. It is a non-master volume amp; it is not going to sound good un- less you are pushing it. Maybe even Dime it. Marshall are one of the ever fewer things that Britain can remain proud of,so where bet- ter to put them together than at the Marshall Headquarters in Bletchley. It is comforting to know, if your amp were to let you down on stage, there is always a place nearby who’s window you could throw it through. The Marshall SV20H is an ex- ceptional compact unit. Hope- fully the SV20H will be the amp of choice for artists of today to communicate their guitar wizardry into a sonically satisfying wall of goodness. www.ryansgigguide.com rgg Mar 2019 35
