Ryan's Gig Guide - March 2019

 www.facebook.com/balabanandthebaldilleagles Friday 29th March The Castle & Falcon, Birmingham  Originating from Wolverhampton, Yak are Oli- ver Burslem, bassist Vincent Davies and drum- mer Elliot Rawson. After the demise of their former band; Yelps, Oliver and original bassist Andy Jones, went on to form INTL with future Splashh members TotoVivian and Tom Beal. In the past,Yak have had releases on Fat Possum Records and Jack White's Third Man Records and toured with contemporaries such as Peace, King Gizzard & the LizardWizard and The Last Shadow Puppets. Second album, “Pursuit of Momentary Happi- ness” opens with the lo-fi, funky “Bellyache”, followed by “Fried” which begins with a primal scream John Lennon would be proud of. The title track, I can only describe as a beautiful dreamy lullabye. My personal highlights are “Pay Off vs. The Struggle” which is reminds me of Clinic and “Encore” which has a real timeless classic sound with stunning vocals. The closing track “This house has no living room” featuring J Spaceman of Spiritualized, brings this majestic album to soothing conclusion.
