Ryan's Gig Guide - March 2019
ing Clear” on 22nd March. They play a launch gig at one of their favourite venues - Claptrap, in Stourbridge and will be supported by two fan- tastic local bands in Giant and The Georges and Colossus Yeti.A gig that’s not to be missed! Going Clear genuinely surpasses my expecta- tions as a fan - a quite difficult task! It captures their addictive live sound superbly well and only cements my belief that they should be playing to fans of British post-punk all over the world. Title track “Going Clear” is an eminently danceable alt rock tune that should be all over any indie-friendly radio station like a rash. “Music Crimes”, is a melodic yet punky dig at the prevalence of both tribute bands and of bland, formulaic manufactured music. The beautiful “Pearly”, with its somewhat gentler vibe, gives your pulse-rate a rest but it’s not long before “Relegation” hits you with a more traditional rock guitar sound. Balaban’s masterful vocals ensure that the song retains the bands’ contemporary edge and it subsequently descending into a de- lightfully fuzzy post-punk haze.“Trumpaged- don” is a swaggering opening with an omi- nous edge emanating from war-mongering samples of the current “Leader of the Free World”.“Bleeder” at 2:45 long, proves that a song doesn’t have to go on forever to be anthemic and this track is seriously as good as Love will tear us apart. “Dwindle” and “Conglomerate” display the band’s consistency before the soaring guitars on “Ghost Limb” hit the heights of early Editors material. The album ends with “Pugilist” which could prove to be a future indie-hit! www.facebook.com/balabanandthebaldilleagles by Fat BlokeWith No Tattoos Check them out in our Spotify playlist www.ryansgigguide.com/audio www.ryansgigguide.com rgg Mar 2019 21
