Friday 5th July Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham  Liars at the Witch Trial + The Common, Slow Tapes, Seconds Out & The Fauna Describing themselves as predominently rock combined with indie & disco, Birmingham duo KateWalton & AdamWakefield formed Liars at theWitch Trial in 2017 and promptly released the debut ‘Witch Trial’ EP, followed up in May 2019 by ‘Stormy Seas’. Stormy Seas is four tracks of raucous, catchy alt-rock and gets better with every listen, successfully deploy- ing heavy rock riffs alongside Kate’s sturdy vocals that, brings to mind early Placebo & Gossip material. The opening track needs no descrip- tion other than its title;‘Dark Disco’ ...that’s exactly what it is! ‘Monster’ begins in a more subdued manner and bursts into life before being reigned in - like the monster that Kate is singing about.‘Hands’ returns us to indie-disco territory.The epic closing track ‘Shipwrecked’ has a real classic rock tinge but still manages to leave you in no doubt that you’re listening to a contemporary rock band - lovely stuff!
