Ryan's Gig Guide - January 2019
A cold Friday afternoon in December, saw (lazy) RGG correspondent Fat BlokeWith NoTattoos , asking our readers on Facebook to recommend local acts for 2019. The Pa- gans S.O.H. were mentioned the most - we love em too! The Pagans S.O.H 1. They are an amazing live act and something new and fresh on our local indie scene. They put everything they have into their music - and that's what has won me over. Rita Dabrowicz 2. Newer band yet to release their debut but they are ones to watch for me. Rage/Chilis cross with hip-hop, grime and a hint of ragga. Pete Steel 3. No one like them at the moment. Funky grime rock with hip hop elements and a mental frontman. Wayne Carey Cymbeline Well worth any music lover’s attention. They’re an amazing quartet of 16-17yr olds whose mu- sical prowess and knowledge belies their youth. They play an ever inventive mix of psych-garage rock with originality & wit galore. I’ve seen them at least half a dozen times now and you never know what to expect, they are always refresh- ingly different in addition to being visually arrest- ing performers. StefWork Orpheus UK They've smashed it out the park with debut track osiris, and I'm excited to see what the new year brings. They prove that innovation is not dead in the local alt rock scene! TobyTJ Cochrane WMD Went to their Album launch. Really impressed, some great quirky tracks. Kate Hoare Lady Sanity She’s the next big artist to watch in 2019. She’s young, driven, consistent and hard working. Bose Johnson The Clause They've sold out 300 capacity venues this year in Birmingham and are stepping up to 500. Danny Brierley Devilfire Just as formidable live. Alan Frost Voidlurker They put me in a party mood. Monolithically heavy but groovy too. Emma Billingham AmoebaTeen They're working on a new album that should be a cracker! MartinWood Jess Silk, Giant & The Georges I would say Jess Silk or Giant and the George's, two pretty exciting acts to keep your eye on. Nathan Marrey Alex Lleo Super talented Bromsgrove lad who has been on the circuit for a few years, released some great stuff this yea rand can do it live either as a solo artist or with his band. Steve Homer Blue Nation Saw them supportingTheVon Hertzen Brothers earlier this week and they really impressed me. Don't be fooled by the image, these guys can rock with the best of them. Paul Quinton Sugarthief A band clearly destined for bigger things, writing bouncy tunes that fill venues and attract crowds that hang on every word. If you wanna see a local band generate a stage invasion... Go see 'em. Mark Terry OUR SURVEY SAID: PAGANS 32 rgg Jan 2019 www.ryansgigguide.com
