Future bubblers told us that their aim is to boost the networks supporting independent music-makers in the city... “The Block Party is the first of a series of events in a year-long collaboration with Wolverhampton’s music creatives. By connecting with the organisations who are already working to enable young artists, Future Bubblers want to use our expertise and outside perspective to help unsigned musicians make new connections.” Saturday 31st Aug Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton Having previously established relationships with other cities across the UK, collaborating with music and arts organisations in Manchester, Southampton, Hull, Liverpool and Salford, the underlying ethos is to try and support the hubs which are building independent music networks outside of the capital in a music industry which continues to be imbalanced towards London. It’s also an opportunity for music makers who might be interested in applying to be part of the Future Bubblers talent development programme. Each year, they invite open applications from unsigned artists to send in demos, with around 10 each year chosen to be mentored in developing their career. Previous artists mentored through the programme includeYazmin Lacey and Skinny Pelembe, who’ve gone on to sign record deals and be featured on national radio and newspapers. The next round of applications are due to be announced shortly, and this is an opportunity to learn more about what kind of music the programme supports. Selassie Tevie, Project Coordinator for Future Bubblers, said, “Local music organisations play a vital part in helping independent artists grow, and so we’re excited to work with these ambitious partners inWolverhampton to try and bring something new to the table and build long-lasting connections.” www.futurebubblers.com Photo - AYY www.ryansgigguide.com 26 rgg Aug 2019
