Ryan's Gig Guide - April 2019

Singer-song- writer Bryony Williams re- turns with a dose of ethe- real dream-pop with new single silhouette, out 19th April. The track is the first of a double B-side following the release of her acclaimed second EP, Conscious. Featuring Bryony’s trademark wist- ful dreamy vocals, haunting guitar riffs and distorted synths, silhouette is a harrowing recol- lection of a relation- ship unravelling and the crushing heart- ache of it ending. The track showcases her ability to tell poign- ant and vivid stories through her lyrics, and her willingness to bare all. “Silhouette is the heart- break song of my lifetime. Writ- ten in my home studio late on a winter’s night, the lyrics reflect the state of mind and uncertain influx I was in at the time, and almost still are. The track is about the type of heart- break you sudden- ly catch your mind constantly wandering back to; a memory that will always stay with me and the dis- comfort that comes with it.Will I find a love like that again? I’m not sure… but I’ll stalk the hell out of it.” Bryony has spent the past 3 years estab- lishing herself with a brand of personal, unapologet- ic and pro- gressive in- diefolk-pop. Citing Wolf Alice, Mari- ka Hackman and Cocteau Twins as her influences, Bryony seam- lessly intertwines her sound to create dreamy, hook-laden soundscapes. 22-year-old Bryony has sup- ported the likes of Isaac Gra- cie, The Goon Sax, Hazel Eng- lish and Stevie Parker. Drawing from her combined influences, Bryony thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the characters, concepts and emotions she’s able to portray with each release. This year has already resulted in Bryony being highlighted as one of the ’25 to watch in the Midlands in 2019’ by BBCWM and shortlisted for ‘Best Al- bum/EP’ by Birmingham Music Awards 2019. As well as music, Bryony is the founder of female music col- lective ‘GRRRL GROANNN!!!’ inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement, where her need to break the patriarchal industry structures and to represent female artists in true underground, DIY fashion takes place through zine making, event management and operating as an in- die label. www.ryansgigguide.com rgg Apr 2019 21
