Ryan's Gig Guide - October 2018
+ The Proctors + Patched Up Parachutes Over the past decade, The Hum- drum Express (singer/songwriter Ian Passey) has been quietly build- ing a reputation as one of the re- gion’s much loved lyricists. His engaging live performances have seen him gigging with the likes of Dr John Cooper Clarke, Half Man Half Biscuit, Bob Mould and Ian McCulloch to name a few; re- leasing five full albums along the way and racking up more than 30 plays on BBC 6music. Notable past gig occurrences have included him handing out party bags to audience members, wear- ing pyjamas on stage and - for last year’s Rose Theatre special – con- ducting a mock radio show. For se- lected dates such as this one, Ian has the added bonus of a full rock- ing band. Carl Bayliss (drums),An- drew Boswell (bass) and Chris Taylor-Ashcroft (keys) provide an up-tempo, buoyant backing to the cutting observation and subtle puns. The evening, at the ever popular Claptrap, will also mark the release of the new Humdrum Express sin- gle Online Beer Club. 12 months ago, the venue provided the setting for the video shoot for previous release E-Petition, which also saw Stourbridge High Street brought to a standstill by a mass zombie in- vasion! Very special guests on the night are Midlands’ indie legends The Proc- tors and lo-fi singer/songwriter Patched Up Parachutes.Admission is £4 on the door with an early ar- rival highly recommended. www.thehumdrumexpress.com win tickets online: Go to: www.ryansgigguide.com/ Closing date: A free draw.
