Ryan's Gig Guide - July 2018

www.ryansgigguide.com 12 rgg July 2018 The Verdict Reviews by Nick J. Townsend Debut single 'Hooks' fromWest Midland based band Black Bear Kiss whose band name to me suspiciously sounds like some sort of social jus- tice warrior movement. The song is a foot stomp- ing muse of styles and my first impressions are that this would be popular with fans of acts like Kasabian and Queens Of The Stone Age. The band have a fun "boy meets girl with a twist" music video for 'Hooks' which was filmed at the world famous 'Percy's Café Bar' in Shropshire. 'Hook' has lots of hooks, nothing to do with Peter Pan and is very easy to sing a long to unless you don't have a mouth or some form of hole in your face; a memorable chorus that hopefully will be heard by many of you out there. Check them out on Spotify today and their music video is on YouTube;Worth watching. www.facebook.com/blackbearkissband SINGLE of the month Hook by Black Bear Kiss Arguably recommended for fans of bands like A Day To Remember, Killswitch Engage and Bring Me The Horizon. This is the long awaited debut release from Birmingham alternative post hard- core five piece band Straight For The Sun which believe me isn't an advert for a holiday; actually I think their name pays homage to Lamb Of God but I digress. The band have already gained much attention on the live circuit; now they've head- butted their way out of the recording studio with this single coated in a caboodle of killer guitar riffs; my favourite particular part is the bridge sec- tion which is very Korn-like; those are the best types of guitar riffs to have but that's just my opinion. Overall a top performance by vocalist Callum Green and it's a solid rock tune aimed at the audiences of the beforementioned artists.
