since

vocal harmonies and folk rock and even though
the venue isn’t full to capacity just yet Audrey
Nugent and Amy Belle certainly know how to
get the attention of the crowd
Of course and with all due respect to Nugent
& Belle there really is only one band we’re here
to see tonight – Counting Crows Tonight’s gig
is a continuation of the Somewhere under
Wonderland tour in support of their album of
the same name which was released in
September last year The crowd goes wild when
the band file on to stage and blast into Round
Here (from A&EA) followed by Scarecrow (the
first song of the night from SUW)
Everyone’s favourite Mr Jones is next and it
doesn’t matter that Mr Duritz is singing it a bit
differently no doubt trying to keep the song as
fresh for him as it is treasured to us We sing
along anyway because in our heads it will
always be as it was There’s a brilliant cover of
Start Again by Teenage Fanclub and then it’s
back to A&EA for Omaha Again the band and
Duritz puts a new little spin on this old faithful
but it still sounds great Throughout Duritz’
voice soars and actually sounds better than
ever Big Yellow Taxi originally by Joni
Mitchell is a sure fire hit as everyone belts it
out with passion Another new one is
Earthquake Driver which is followed by A Long
December and lastly the absolutely wonderful
A Murder of One
The band exit the stage to the sounds of the
crowd going mental and of course crying out
for more so back on they come for a three song
encore including the awesome Rain King and
ending on Holiday in Spain
The only reason why I haven’t given the gig
stars is (as me and my friend Jason were
discussing afterwards) simply because what we
wanted to hear from August and Everything
After was not what we got but maybe we
shouldn’t be so hung up on memories of what
was Ultimately this is a gig I and no doubt
many others have been waiting over years
for It met every expectation and really was well
worth the wait
