The Midland’s metal scene is an ever
expanding one and one that regularly sees local
bands perform on a weekly basis, but a band
that’s been on the radar for some time are
Thrash metal favourites, Eradikator, who were
birthed out of Birmingham city. Emily Bielby
chats to vocalist and bassist Pat Cox and Lead
guitarist Andy MacNevin to get the lowdown.
Forming in 2007, Eradikator came about when
friends, Andy, Jon, Glenn and finally Liam,
decided to start a Thrash metal band. “We got
Liam to join as the other guitarist; he could play
loads of Megadeth and Metallica on guitar so
we met up at our house for a jam and we all
clicked immediately. We then got Pat in -
originally just on vocals - but then Glenn had to
leave the band and it turned out Pat was an
amazing bass player so he started playing bass
and singing. Our name came about just through
trying to think of a word that encapsulated our
sound and we fell upon Eradikator... it was
originally spelt with a C then Liam made the
great point that a K is more metal than a C and
that's why it's called a “Kicking K”, jokes Andy.
Obvious early influences of the band’s sound
point to Metallica, Exodus and Megadeth, but
Andy clarifies that a mix of different genres also
influence their unique thrash metal sound: “We
all grew up on loads of other stuff like classic
rock, punk, blues, hardcore. Since growing
more as a band we've tried to bring together all
our influences and make our music a little more
unique and tried to make it an amalgamation of
