Verdict:
West Midlands alternative rock band
Institutes
release this first-rate double sided
single
Golden Egg
and
Not Alone
. Okay, now
some less open-minded reviewers may look at
this band and just fob them off with a list of
current indie bands doing something rock or a
tad similar. However, I'd disagree with them and
I'm going to cut to the chase and be a bit more
observant. Playing
Golden Egg
is without a
doubt making my gut feel that this here is the
British version of
Chris Cornell
at his best during
his
Audioslave
days or possibly the
Superunknown period of
Soundgarden
but with
a more modern take of that suggested influence.
Institutes
singer and guitarist Gareth Griffiths
could use
Golden Egg
to change the way people
regard British rock music as he and his fellow
band mates have an incredible sound. Strong,
compelling and now they need to take this to
mammoth heights. If this tune and the equally
impressive
Not Alone
are the calibre of
songwriting offered now, then they have a big
future if they improve on this. I've just compared
Gareth Griffiths to one of the architects of the
1990s grunge movement; that's not said lightly.

West Midland band
Victory Lane
release
Adios,
the follow up single to their debut
If Not Now Then When?
. The band, who are
soon on a promotional tour performing to crowds
in Glasgow, Newcastle and Liverpool, only
formed last year.
Adios
has a very well produced
professional sound and is a very catchy
commercial, ultra radio friendly, college friendly,
anti-unfriendly, upbeat, pop rock party tune
aimed at what I speculate is a very precise
market – teenagers.
Victory Lane
may not
appear as deep or spiritual as
Pink Floyd
, but
they make up for it by being young, gleeful and
fun. You gotta admire a band that doesn't rely on
being moody and miserable like 98% of
musicians do. I can't say that this is the most
original tune I've ever detected because it isn't
and I've heard songs by
You Me At Six, Blink
182, Kids In Glass Houses
and
5 Seconds of
Summer!
Still, it ain’t a bad thing as I've just
listed the target audience this single will
appeal to - and they are some big names
indeed. Their single is available on Amazon and
Spotify from April 15th. They've done quite a bit
within a short space of time so please do support
this band.
